Well, the countdown continues…
I have to say, I am very much looking forward to Christmas Day. It is the one day I know, FOR SURE, we (as in my family) will all be home together, in the same room, interacting with each other. At least for a couple of hours. I am going to try to drag it out as long as possible.
As the kids get older, they want to spend less time with us and more time with their friends. I get that. I am thankful my kids have friends and are becoming independent. That is, after all, what we raise them to do. But I think we have all definitely drifted apart a bit. It is a rare thing for all four of us to be in the house, or even awake at the same time, much less eat a meal together. If we do all happen to be up and awake and in the house at the same time, the chance we are in the same room together for more than twenty minutes is few and far between.
So, you can be sure I am going to drag this Christmas Day extravaganza out for as long as we can all possibly stand it. There is going to be ginger house building, egg nogging and caroling around the Christmas tree. We are going to wear stupid hats and take a family portrait then have a Christmas movie marathon. After dinner, I am going to break out the board games. Ok, maybe the board games is pushing it a bit, perhaps I will only use the board games as a threat.
Yes, Christmas spirit is back!
