It was fun putting this collection together. I started with a palette of what I would call American traditional colors, inspired by an American traditional tattoo color palette.

After playing with a few traditional colorways, I thought I’d really go for it and replace the traditional colors with some unexpected bold colors. And WOW!

I’ve always loved the idea of using bold maximalist patterns and colors in areas where they wouldn’t be expected, like the inside of a closet, in cabinets and drawers, or on a laundry room ceiling. How surprising would it be to open a closet and be met with some lovely lady gators welcoming you in?
But of course, I think a great statement can be made when a bold pattern is front and center of a room as well.

What do you think? Would you consider yourself a maximalist when it comes to color and pattern? Or do you like to keep it super simple and clean? Personally, I can’t completely decide. I’m head over heels with the highly curated maximalist spaces I’m seeing on social media, but in all honesty, I’m not sure it’s an aesthetic I could live with day in and day out. I think that’s why I can really appreciate having a little dramatic effect pop up in small, unexpected ways. It plays into my maximalist side just enough.
This collection inspired a couple of other animal-themed patterns, which I will be revealing next time – whenever next time is. Hopefully soon. But if you are really curious, you can check them out here.
